Birding in Txingudi marshes

with a professional birding & wildlife guide

Txingudi marshes, in Gipuzkoa

One of the Best Northern Wetlands for Migratory Birds

One of the most important wetlands in northern Spain for migratory birds.

It is formed by Plaiaundi, Jaizubia, the islands of the Bidasoa estuary, and Osinbiribil.

The site holds several conservation designations, including:

  • Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds

  • Site of Community Importance (SCI)

  • Part of the Natura 2000 Network

  • Listed under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands

More than 300 bird species have been recorded here — around 60% of all species recorded in Spain.

The marshes of Plaiaundi and Jaizubia are restored wetlands, previously degraded by human use.

These itineraries cover all habitats: freshwater lagoons, wet grasslands, reedbeds, woodland areas and tidal mudflats.

Easy access and excellent close-range bird observation.

Ideal for beginners.
