Birdwatching at Gallocanta Lagoon
with a professional Birding & Nature Guide
Two-Day Birding Tour at Gallocanta Lagoon
A two-day tour around Gallocanta Lagoon visiting its different observation sites. We will enjoy a wide variety of wildfowl gathering on the open waters of the lagoon, often accompanied by waders along the shores. Raptors scan the area from above, hovering and soaring over the steppe landscape. Passerines feed along the track edges, and at dusk the cranes return to their roosts while Short-eared Owls begin hunting — a truly unforgettable spectacle.
Gallocanta
Gallocanta is an endorheic lagoon that each year hosts tens of thousands of Common Cranes during migration. We spend the day visiting different viewpoints and hides, from where we can observe a wide variety of wildfowl.
We travel mainly by car, with occasional short walks. From elevated viewpoints, we may spot groups of Great Bustards, Wild Boar and other ungulates. At sunset, Short-eared Owls are sometimes seen hunting while vast flocks of cranes arrive at their roosting sites.
